Tips for
Reply Card Design
To qualify for mail handling at
the First-Class card rate, the post cards (the detachable
part to be returned) must be: (a) not
smaller than 3.5 inches by 5 inches, nor larger than
(currently) 4.25 inches by 6 inches;
(b) the piece must be rectangular in shape and of approximately the same form,
quality and weight as postal cards - the weight basis is
presently.025 lbs per square ft (125 grams per square meter);
(c) the piece must be unfolded and without creases of card
or text stock of the approximate quality and weight as postal
cards;
(d) the piece must be of a uniform thickness not less than 0.007 inch thick or
greater than 0.0095 inch thick.
Increasing
Response
Promotion reply postcard preaddressed to the mailer and
sent as permit mail, requiring no postage payment by
the responder increases response rates by 25%. Mailers pay a fee of approximately $400 per
year for a business reply permit or can use the indicia of
their printer/mail handler. Businesses pay postage
only for pieces actually mailed, instead of printing or
attaching stamps to each each piece.
Adding a web reply card increases
and speeds response rates while lowering costs. The physical
piece, the reply card (E-reply card) is designed to inform
and activate a person to respond, subscribe, etc. With a
coordinated web reply option, the consumer is given multiple
opportunities to reply. Handling and postal charges are
significantly reduced if the consumer responds via the web.
